Two New Faces in the National Selection Panel: Shanto and Salma

Former star pacer Hasibul Hossain Shanto has been appointed as the third selector of the Bangladesh national cricket team. From now on, he will officially take part in the selection process of the squad.

After the resignation of former opener Hannan Sarkar, the selection panel had been operating with just two members—chief selector Gazi Ashraf Hossain and Abdur Razzak. The vacant position has now been filled with the inclusion of Shanto. The decision was finalized this afternoon in an emergency meeting at Mirpur.

Speculation had been ongoing for several months about adding a third selector to the panel, and that has now become a reality. Shanto, who represented Bangladesh as a pace bowler in his playing days, will formally be involved in team formation duties going forward.

Currently, the role of chief selector is held by Gazi Ashraf Hossain Lipu, the country’s first-ever ODI captain, while former star spinner Abdur Razzak has long been serving as his assistant. Now, Shanto joins them as the third member of the panel.

Meanwhile, in women’s cricket, history has been made as former captain Salma Khatun has become the first-ever female selector. She will be working alongside Sajjad Ahmed Shipon, the current chief selector of the women’s team.
