“We Want to Gift the Nation an Eid Win by Beating Singapore” – Cabrera

Right after the Bhutan match, the Bangladesh national football team resumed training yesterday. The entire squad practiced in the evening at the Dhaka National Stadium. Even on Eid day, there will be no disruption to this schedule. On Tuesday, Bangladesh will face Singapore in the Asian Cup qualifiers. Head coach of the national team, Javier Cabrera, wants to gift the nation a victory against Singapore as an Eid present.

Speaking to the media on Friday (June 7) before the team’s training session, Cabrera said, “We want to beat Singapore and give the nation an Eid gift.” Like yesterday, players including Hamza Chowdhury, Fahamidul Islam, and Jamal Bhuiyan will take part in training today, Saturday. Thus, a win in the June 10 match against Singapore would be the best reflection of their hard work.

A few days ago, Bangladesh defeated Bhutan 2–0 in a friendly, and playing in front of a packed stadium created an extraordinary wave of football excitement across the country. In that context, a win in the upcoming match would truly be a special gift for the people.

Meanwhile, Cabrera is not at all worried about the team’s lack of efficiency in front of goal. Although Bangladesh created several opportunities against Bhutan, they managed to score only twice. The first came from a header by Hamza off a Jamal Bhuiyan corner — a debut goal at home for the England-born midfielder. Cabrera said, “We scored two goals, and I’m happy with that. Of course, we need to improve our finishing, but that’s football.”

He added, “We scored from a set piece against Bhutan, and that’s an area we’ve improved a lot. In the last three matches, we haven’t conceded any goals from set pieces. That’s a positive.”
