Cricket Board (BCB) has decided not to retain batting coach David Hemp with the national team for the ongoing tour of the West Indies. Instead, his focus will shift to other roles within the BCB’s structure, such as heading the High Performance (HP) Unit and potentially taking on the role of head coach for the Bangladesh Tigers program.
Hemp, who took on the role of national batting coach in December last year, has faced criticism due to Bangladesh’s poor batting performances in Tests during his tenure. Under his coaching, the team managed to cross the 350-run mark only once in 14 innings, with an average team score of just 226 runs. This disappointing record has prompted the BCB to reconsider his role with the national side.
For the ongoing West Indies series, which includes two Tests, three ODIs, and three T20Is, head coach Phil Simmons or senior assistant coach Mohammad Salahuddin is expected to take over the batting responsibilities. According to BCB Cricket Operations Manager Shahriar Nafees, the decision to exclude Hemp from this tour reflects a shift in strategy to better align resources with performance needs.
