“Who will take responsibility for the dishonor I have faced due to fixing allegations?”—Bijoy’s Question

The ongoing 11th edition of the BPL has been marred by various controversies beyond the game itself. One of the most significant issues has been the suspicion of match-fixing in several matches. A few days ago, multiple media outlets published reports naming certain cricketers and franchises suspected of being involved in match-fixing. Among those named was Durbar Rajshahi’s Anamul Haque Bijoy. Shortly after, rumors spread that he had been banned from leaving the country. However, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) later issued a statement clarifying that the information was incorrect. Throughout this time, Bijoy remained silent.

Recently, however, he has spoken out, revealing that he has been mentally devastated by the spread of such misleading information. He also mentioned that he is sending legal notices to those involved in spreading false news. He questioned who would take responsibility for the damage done to his reputation.

On Sunday night, Bijoy addressed these allegations in a video statement on his official Facebook page. He said, “For the past four or five days, my family and I have been going through something that no one else knows about—only I do. I wanted to say a lot, but I wasn’t in the right state to speak. But when I saw that BCB, our guardian, had issued a clear statement to the media, I felt it was the right time to talk.”

He further added, “Let me say this—what I am experiencing today could happen to another player in the future. We’ve seen this before—any news about a player gets published without hearing their side of the story. I don’t know what kind of satisfaction people get from doing this, but have they ever thought about what it does to the player’s family or their mental state? Those who published such news do not care about cricket; they do not care about the country’s cricket or Bangladesh itself.”

Whenever a player is accused of match-fixing, criticism follows. Bijoy was no exception. Before BCB’s clarification, he faced intense backlash from various media outlets and social media platforms.

He stated, “You cannot slap someone in public and then just say sorry later—that doesn’t fix anything. The news you published has dishonored me, questioned my years of hard work, and tainted my career. I want to play for the national team, but after such allegations, I don’t know what my career will look like. Because of you, my career, my dignity, my financial and social standing have all been put at risk. Who will take responsibility for that? No matter how many times you say sorry, it won’t undo the damage. I am sending a legal notice—you will receive it within a day or two, and I will make it public after that.”
