After winning the last T20 World Cup, Virat Kohli retired from the shortest format of the game. Recently, following India’s Champions Trophy victory, there were speculations about his retirement from ODIs as well. However, the batting genius has not made any official announcement regarding his departure. Now, Kohli has hinted at his future plans, revealing his next goal in white-ball cricket for India.
During an event amid the IPL, Kohli was asked about his next big step. He responded, “I will try to win the next One-Day World Cup. That is my next big step.” His words were met with applause from the audience.
India last won the ODI World Cup in 2011. Since then, they have faced heartbreak in the semifinals of the 2015 and 2019 editions. In 2023, India had a golden opportunity to lift the trophy on home soil, winning 10 consecutive matches before losing to Australia in the final.
Former Indian captain Virat Kohli has also achieved a remarkable milestone. He has become the second Indian cricketer, after Sachin Tendulkar, to play 550 international matches.
