“With due respect, Pakistan is no longer India’s equal: Sourav Ganguly”

Team India has advanced to the Super Four of the Asia Cup after defeating Pakistan by 7 wickets. Salman and his teammates were completely outplayed by Kuldeep and the rest of the Indian bowling attack, while Abhishek Sharma effortlessly dispatched Shaheen Shah Afridi’s deliveries to the boundary. In the end, India won with ease.

At an event in Kolkata, former India captain Sourav Ganguly sharply criticized Pakistan cricket while reflecting on the India–Pakistan clash in the 2025 Asia Cup. He said that after watching the first 15 overs of the match, he switched the channel to watch the Manchester Derby (Manchester United vs Manchester City). The reason, according to him, is that he no longer considers Pakistan a serious competitor.

Ganguly said, “Pakistan is no longer a competitive side. After the first 15 overs, I switched over to the Manchester Derby. Honestly, I would rather watch India play Australia, England, South Africa, or even Afghanistan than Pakistan.”

Recalling the stars of the past, the former captain added, “We used to think of Pakistan as the team of Waqar Younis, Wasim Akram, Saeed Anwar, or Javed Miandad. But modern Pakistan is not like that—there is truly a world of difference. With due respect, Pakistan is no longer India’s equal.”

He further said, “This Indian team doesn’t even have Virat Kohli or Rohit Sharma, yet they are moving ahead comfortably. Compared to Pakistan and most of the other teams in the Asia Cup, India is far ahead. Yes, losing a match or two is possible. But on most days, India will be the best team.”

When asked about the lack of handshakes between Indian and Pakistani cricketers after the match, Ganguly avoided the issue, saying, “Suryakumar Yadav can answer that better. I’m far away, busy with my brand launch. Suryakumar has already made his stance clear.”

In conclusion, Ganguly added, “The most important thing is that terrorism must stop—not just between India and Pakistan, but across the whole world. But sports should never stop.”
