Bangladesh began their U-19 Asia Cup campaign with a victory, defeating Afghanistan by 45 runs in the tournament opener. Captain Azizul Hakim Tamim led from the front with a century, supported by impressive bowling performances.
On Friday, November 29, Bangladesh opted to bat first after losing the toss. They posted 228 runs for the loss of 9 wickets in their allotted 50 overs. Azizul Tamim top-scored with a patient 103 off 133 balls, while Kalam Siddiqi contributed 66 runs from 110 balls. Afghanistan’s bowlers Abdul Aziz, Nuristani Omarzai, and Khateer Stanikzai picked up two wickets each.
In reply, Afghanistan struggled early, losing their first wicket with just 21 runs on the board. Opener Uzairullah Nijai was dismissed for 8 off 19 balls. Mahbub Khan and Faisal Khan tried to steady the innings with a 45-run partnership, but Mahbub was sent back for 16 off 53 balls.
Faisal Khan then partnered with Nasir Khan to add 50 runs to the total, with Faisal scoring a solid 58 off 58 balls before being dismissed at 116. Nasir Khan managed 34 runs off 60 balls, but the Afghan batting lineup collapsed after his departure.
Bangladesh’s bowlers, particularly Iqbal Hossain Emon and Al Fahad, kept things tight and shared three wickets each. Afghanistan were bowled out for 183 in 47.5 overs, falling short by 45 runs.
With this victory, Bangladesh made a strong start to their U-19 Asia Cup campaign.
